MEET JUDY KEEN, PHD.

About Judy Keen, PhD

Judy’s training in molecular biology and her tenure as a researcher at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey laid the foundation for her deep understanding of scientific principles and methodologies. This hands-on experience in the laboratory environment allowed her to appreciate the challenges and nuances of conducting cutting-edge research.

Her transition to the AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship marked a pivotal point in her career, where she gained invaluable insights into the intricate world of science policy. Through her subsequent roles at organizations like the National Cancer Institute, medical associations, and pharmaceutical companies, Judy developed a comprehensive grasp of the policy landscape, regulatory frameworks, and the interplay between scientific research, healthcare, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Judy’s diverse experiences have cultivated a profound understanding of the business of science and policy from multiple angles. Recognizing the critical need for scientists to actively participate in policy development and implementation, the ACS Fellowship program was created to bridge the gap between scientific research and policymaking.

Judy holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from the Johns Hopkins University, a Doctorate in Physiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Currently, Judy is the Vice President of the JHU Alumni Association, the Chair of the JHU Press, and a Trustee on the Johns Hopkins Board of Trustees.
